One of NorthLink Ferries’ longest serving crew members was honoured yesterday (Wednesday, 8 October) with a series of celebrations at Lerwick.
The events, organised as a tribute to Captain Nigel Barnes (63) for his 26 years of service on the ‘North Boats’ which from 2002, included pilot vessel Kebister leading the M.V. Hrossey from Lerwick harbour as Capt Barnes made his final sailing before retirement.
A framed commemorative photograph was also presented to Capt Barnes from Lerwick Port Authority at a celebratory lunch earlier that day. Marking the occasion, Sandra Laurenson Chief Executive of Lerwick Port Authority, said: “Capt Barnes is a well-respected figure within the Lerwick Harbour community and we would like to thank him for his efforts over the past 26 years. I wish him all the best for the future and a happy retirement.”
