Lerwick Port Authority Cruise & Marketing Manager, Melanie Henderson, has been appointed to the additional role of Secretary to industry marketing organisation, Cruise Scotland.

She joined the Authority in 2007 taking up her current position in 2018. Lerwick Harbour is a leading Scottish cruise port, handling record levels of activity.

Her latest appointment was made at Cruise Scotland's recent AGM when it was recealed that the sector continues to deliver significant value to the nation's economy, with 1.1 million passengers visiting Scottish ports in 2024 and contributing an estimated £130 million annually to local businesses and communites, reflecting the growing reputation as one of the world's best cruise destinations.

Following the Scottish Government's recently prposed cruise levy, the organisation has raised concerns it may risk discouraging cruise calls, leading to a knock-on economic impact on communities that benefit from the revenue generated from regular visits.
