Shetland has been described as possibly "the last untamed corner of the UK" in Lonely Planet's travel guide, Best In Travel 2011.
Particular mention is made to the Port of Lerwick as a “must-include port of call for cruise ships".
The Shetland Port welcomed a record number of passengers to the Islands in 2010, with advance bookings for 2011 already set to surpass previous records with larger ships and even more passengers.
Sandra Laurenson, Chief Executive of Lerwick Port Authority commented “Lerwick has been a popular port-of-call for visiting cruise ships for many years now, and our meet and greet team pride themselves in providing a warm welcome to cruise passengers and crew. It is fantastic news that Shetland has received this accolade in such a well respected publication”.
